For years we've been accused of trying to take over the world. Turns out we started with the Royal Albert Hall...
Back in the Day (1978 this one was!) Darlington Big Band took to the famous stage, and lurking amongst the talented musicians were no fewer than three former members of Gil Galad!
🎸 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐧, lead guitarist from the original late 70s and early 80s line-up, was holding down the guitar chair.
🎷 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, our original bass player from those early days, appears to have swapped four strings for a tenor saxophone and was happily blowing alongside the legendary Ronnie Scott what a musician.
🥁 And on drums was 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧, who stepped in behind the Gil Galad kit during the early 80s when 𝐊𝐞𝐯 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬 couldn't make it.
This marked the third time that Paul and Chris have performed at the Royal Albert Hall. Not bad for a bunch of lads who once thought carrying their own gear was the height of musical achievement!
It's another proud chapter in the wonderfully tangled musical history of Gil Galad. We've gone from pubs, clubs and questionable dressing rooms to one of the most famous concert venues on the planet.
We're not saying Gil Galad is a training academy for Royal Albert Hall performers...
...but the evidence is starting to look suspicious. 🤔😂
It was a fantastic experience and a memorable night of music.

After attending The Long Awaited Party, it seems some of our guests wandered off in search of something a little more... spiritual.
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? - "𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐝".
Recorded back in 1980s at Durham's legendary Guardian Studios, this mysterious slice of vintage Gil Galad has now emerged from the mists of time, carefully released for your listening pleasure.
Now, we're not entirely sure whether "the piped" refers to tobacco, record organs, secret musicians, wandering minstrels, or a particularly enthusiastic plumber. The mystery remains unsolved over forty years later.
What we do know is that this track has travelled all the way from the days of 2 inch 24 multi tracks to reel-to-reel tape, questionable hairstyles remain, and photocopied gig posters to find its way onto the internet.

Armed only with his Emerald X10 and the kind of confidence normally reserved for people who’ve never actually heard Genesis, he announced he would be performing his own “interpretation” of Steve Hackett’s Horizons, allegedly from the Trespass album, which is news to Genesis, Steve Hackett, and several confused archivists.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐲.
Nev tried to stop him by waving a copy of Foxtrot in the air like a warning flag.
Kev attempted diplomacy, explaining that Hackett’s original was a delicate, emotional masterpiece.
Trevor the Clown, meanwhile, turned up uninvited with a kazoo and declared himself “Paul’s spiritual road manager”.
𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
He sat down, tuned the X10 with the solemnity of a man preparing for battle, and began playing what can only be described as Horizons… but from a parallel universe where gravity is optional and time signatures are chosen by lottery.
Trevor wept.
Nev left the room.
Kev started Googling “How to legally disown a bandmate”.
